So it has been quite a while since I last updated this little gem. A lot has happened since my last post...well actually nothing has really happened since my last post but because nothing ever really happens little things make the news here. For example, last Thursday the lunch menu was falafel, and for us here, that is something happening, that is big news and an event to look forward too. Unfortunately, so much time has passed since my last entry that I can't really sum up what has happened, so instead I'm just going to post some pics of the last couple of months.
The first flight of Winfly(the apocalypse) was supposed to come two days ago, bringing with it fresh, happy, energetic people and leaving with a handful of people who have completed their contracts (including Meghan my supervisor) and a bigger handful of people who have quit or been fired. Due to the type of passengers who board the plane departing back to New Zealand, the flight is referred to as Con Air. You may think that the winter overs look forward to the first flight, your wrong. Everyone is completely burned out and crusty at the moment. The last thing we want is for someone who is tan from a summer back home to come in and start asking us about our winter, complaining about the cold, and just being excited in general that they are in Antarctica. I realize almost exactly a year ago I was the exact new person that as a winter over I now fear. The only good thing about the first flight is that it is also bringing a small load of freshies that are going to be available to winterovers only. I've cleared my next week anticipating that I'll be spending the majority of my time post freshies on the toilet. I can't wait!
Here are some pics: (I stole them from Meghans camera as I still don't have a functioning one)
This is a picture of Berg (the man our building is named after) doing the midwinter plunge a long long time ago. Last year the BFC token male tried to mirror Berg's pose during the midwinter plunge (shown below) This year I did the same (also shown below)
In July myself and two others from Scott Base rode along on stationary bikes with every stage of the Tour De France. The hardest part was seeing all the sunny scenery.
This was taken last week. Lately when the sky has been clear the sky has been scattered with these crazy nacreous clouds. The sun is coming back. Supposedly it has already risen for the first time on the 20th but we haven't been able to see it yet.
