Mostly pictures

Hey Happy Holidays everyone. Hope 2011 is off to a super start.

I don't have a lot to write about this time around, so instead I am just going to post a few pictures of the last few weeks for your viewing pleasure. The pictures are the only thing anyone really looks at on this thing anyway, right?

Here we go:

My most recent trip I was out in Allan Hills with some Ice Core drillers. This is the type of scenery that was out there. Rolling hills of blue ice!

This was our camp at Allan Hills. I stayed in the 3rd Scott tent (pointy triangle ones) from the left.

A view of our camp from farther away.

The drill site. These guys are hoping to be drilling the oldest ever recorded ice. They are hoping it is around 1 million years old.

The ice cores that are drilled out. I got to eat a chip off one of them. I may have possibly eaten a million year old piece of ice. The craziest part, I didn't even get a stomach ache.

Over Christmas I was out at Mt. Flemming with a group studying the polygon shapes in the landscape that are formed by ground ice. This is the view from close to the top of the mountain.

Hiking back to camp after reaching the summit.

Sandstone ventifact shaped by the fierce winds.

What I did for part of Christmas. I was melting snow for drinking water. A very complex process that is heaps of fun and excitement.

Giant ice falls taken on the flight into Flemming. Flemming is the peak you can see in the distance to the left of the ice falls.

Another helicopter shot. This is flying towards the Beacon Valley.

Flemming camp.

Closer shot of Flemming camp.
