Orientation etc...

This first post is posted from Christchurch New Zealand after spending a few days in Denver for orientation then spending a lot of time in airports and airplanes (literaly days). Orientation in Denver was basically filling out paperwork and sitting through fairly pointless presentations on safety and sexual harrassment and such. The whole time there was a super short man (we're talking maybe 5ft if you stretch it) who sat in the back of the room and kept making obvious comments and telling lame stories, which upset everyone else in the room because his comments only prolonged the painful presentations. It should also be noted that this man was decked out in carhart coveralls and safety glasses with bright yellow lenses. He also had the most country accent I've heard in a while.
The crowd in the room consisted mostly of men in their mid to late 30's. They all seem like mostly guys who travel around and work as contractors doing welding and opperating heavy machinery for a living. In the middle of the afternoon a tall attractive younger lady who works for the human resources department at the company gave a presentation about sexual harrassment in the work place. Prior to her presentation I watched the man sitting in front of me secually harrass three different women who walked by him. All of whom, I should note, worked for the human resources department. The man, an over weight heavy equipment operator, who later said that he won't and doesn't care to listen to a word John McCain says but is still dead set on voting for him, told each one of the ladies as they passed by him that they had dropped something on the floor. Apparently he thought it was a clever way to get them to bend over in front of him and at the same time swoon over his overweight frame. One of the most shocking things was that all of these women, who were supposed to be teaching us how not to promote sexual harassment in the workplace, just giggled at the imbecile and even flirted back a little. Since that incident I have seen the same man sexually harass 4 other women, two of which were airline stewardesses. He also threatened to drop kick the Kiwi desk clerk at our hotel, which I think the only reason he disliked the man was that he is not an American.
Tomorrow we are scheduled to pick up our extreme cold weather gear. The next day we are scheduled to fly to the Ice. I'll try and post things on this whenever is convenient. No promises on how frequent that will be.
Cheers!
